Boys & Girls Club of Southern Illinois
Smith Hafeli completed a 4,000 square foot renovation of the Boys & Girls Club facility, transforming a former church into a safe, functional space for youth programming. The project included a full roof replacement and the removal of legacy architectural elements such as the steeple and baptistry. Interior improvements involved selective demolition, new wall construction, sound insulation, and the installation of 14 new viewing windows with impact-resistant film. Structural repairs were made to roof trusses, and new soffits, siding, and downspout extensions were added to improve exterior performance. Plumbing work included replacing the water heater and capping existing baptistry systems, while electrical upgrades brought exterior outlets up to GFCI standards, sealed penetrations, and corrected attic junction boxes. All work concluded with a thorough site cleanup, ensuring the space was ready for use by the Club’s staff and youth.
