EHRM Infrastrcuture Construction

Smith Hafeli, in joint venture with Poettker Construction, completed a comprehensive infrastructure modernization project at the Marion VA Medical Center under the Department of Veterans Affairs’ $27 million Electronic Health Record Modernization (EHRM) program. This initiative is part of a national effort to enhance the VA’s capacity for secure, efficient digital health record management. The project included construction of a campus-wide fiber backbone, telecommunications upgrades, installation of Cat 6A cabling, data outlets, and patch panels. Additional work involved new data center buildouts, physical security enhancements, electrical panel and UPS upgrades, HVAC improvements, and redundant systems to support continuous operation. All work was completed to meet strict VA standards, supporting improved healthcare delivery, data security, and record accessibility for veterans and care providers.
